The Ovulation Calculator helps you estimate when you’re most likely to ovulate — the time when you’re most fertile.
By entering the first day of your last period and your average cycle length, Daisycle’s calculator estimates your fertile window and ovulation date, helping you plan (or prevent) pregnancy naturally and understand your body’s rhythm better.
Note: This tool provides educational estimates, not medical advice or a substitute for contraception. Ovulation can vary from cycle to cycle, even in regular periods.
Ovulation occurs when one of your ovaries releases a mature egg, ready for fertilization.
In an average 28-day cycle, ovulation happens around Day 14, but this can vary.
The egg lives for 12–24 hours, while sperm can survive in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days.
That means your fertile window — the time when pregnancy can occur — usually spans 6 days (5 days before ovulation + ovulation day).
You input:
The first day of your last menstrual period (LMP)
Your average cycle length (the number of days from one period’s start to the next)
The calculator estimates:
Ovulation day
Fertile window (the best days for conception)
Next period start estimate
Example:
If your last period started on June 1 and your cycle is 28 days long, Daisycle predicts:
Ovulation: June 14
Fertile window: June 9–14
Next period: June 29
Focus intercourse or insemination during the fertile window, ideally 1–2 days before ovulation.
Track multiple cycles to see your personal pattern.
Avoid unprotected sex during your fertile window if you’re not trying to conceive.
Consider combining with other fertility awareness methods (FAM) like BBT or cervical mucus observation for better accuracy.
Understanding ovulation helps you recognize normal cycle patterns, hormone-driven mood changes, and mid-cycle symptoms like cervical mucus or ovulation twinges (mittelschmerz).
| Phase | Approximate Days | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Fertile phase begins | ~5 days before ovulation | Sperm can survive up to 5 days inside the body |
| Peak fertility | 1–2 days before ovulation | Highest chance of conception |
| Ovulation day | The egg is released | Egg survives 12–24 hours |
| Post-ovulation | 1 day after | Fertility drops sharply |
Even with regular cycles, ovulation can vary by a few days due to stress, illness, sleep changes, or travel.
While useful, calculators cannot confirm ovulation — they estimate based on averages.
Your actual ovulation day can shift due to:
Stress or illness
Weight changes or thyroid imbalance
Medications or hormone therapy
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Breastfeeding or postpartum recovery
To confirm ovulation, use ovulation predictor kits (LH tests), basal body temperature (BBT) tracking, or ultrasound monitoring with a healthcare provider.
✅ Track at least 2–3 cycles for your average length.
✅ Record ovulation symptoms: cervical mucus (clear/stretchy), mild cramps, increased libido, or breast tenderness.
✅ Use LH test strips to detect the luteinizing hormone surge ~24–36 hours before ovulation.
✅ Sync with Daisycle: The app adapts predictions as you log more data.
✅ Stay consistent: Ovulation predictions become smarter when your cycle history grows.
